Aston Villa are a side that have jostled with Premier League relegation for years but thankfully there have always been sides poorer than them.
They had Christian Benteke and Fabian Delph to thank for many a season too, as the prolific pair single-handedly kept Villa above the dotted line season after season.
But it seems this year their luck has well and truly run out and everything has fallen at once- an amalgamation of all the close shaves has come together at once and the result has shocked even the most die-hard fans in B6.
Many blamed Tim Sherwood for the direction the club was going but as the reigns were passed to Remi Garde, it was clear managerial direction wasn’t the only thing dragging Villa towards the Championship.

Some of Villa’s players should be doing so much better on the pitch. There are players in that team that have a whole wealth of Champions League experience because lets face it, 10 years ago Villa were up there competing in Europe.
But that was then and this is now.
Let’s make no mistake – on paper, Villa should not be where they are. Some of these players have Champions League experience and most have played in the top leagues across Europe. But they are good players being dragged down by a mixture of troubles on and off the field.
Villa is a club currently lacking an identity, a true leader and on-the-pitch fight. Remi Garde has inherited a squad that is severely lacking belief and is rooted so firmly to the bottom of the table, an escape looks like an impossible task.
Their performance at Liverpool was horrible- make no means about it. A 6-0 defeat at home is about as bad as it gets and its impossible to skirt around the fact that they gave up and should be well and truly disappointed with themselves.
But just as those fans wondered if their players did care and felt bad after the game senior defender Joleon Lescott published a tweet of a £120,000 sports car – what a great idea. He later claimed that he did it by mistake but still hasn’t taken the ill-fated message down.
It just goes to prove that actions off the pitch can make things so much worse than those on it. Just as people thought their play couldn’t get any worse, the players then prove their obnoxious snobbery via social media.
It’s an absolute disgrace and Lescott deserve to be disciplined. Severely.
Jack Grealish has been banished to the U21s for months now after his behaviour on a night out after a defeat so will Lescott be given the same punishment? I expect not and this will be a decision that will wind the fans up further.
Villa’s time has run out I’m afraid. There is nothing saving them this season. They will be closer to the bottom of the Championship next season at this rate if they don’t pick it up. Fast.
