According to a report from The Telegraph, Atletico Madrid will consider bringing in Mauricio Pochettino to La Liga as a potential successor to Diego Simeone.
What’s the word, then?
Times are currently extremely tough in La Liga for the Rojiblancos, and despite being on the job for eight years and largely being responsible for most of their success, Simeone’s position may be in jeopardy come the end of the season.
Atletico Madrid are struggling and for that reason the club are monitoring Pochettino’s availability for the upcoming season, as the same source notes in the report.

Andrea Berta, their technical director, is also said to be a huge admirer of the Argentine manager but he might face competition from Manchester United, who would be in the shake-up for the job if the club decide to dismiss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, though the club are determined to stick with him for now.
Verdict
Even though the notion of sacking Simeone seems completely surreal, maybe the time is right for him to hand over the mantle to someone else as Atletico search for a revamp.
Cholo has already won La Liga, two Europa Leagues and reached two Champions League finals during his time at the Spanish capital so his legacy will still remain intact.
But in order for the Rojiblancos to move forward, a change is definitely needed. 2019/20 was supposed to be their chance, with both Barcelona and Real Madrid struggling in the beginning and the former still unable to find their feet, but instead they have allowed themselves to fall even further behind them.
They are currently languishing in sixth and maybe this change in management would be for the best after all.
Elsewhere, Pochettino might not be Atletico’s only target for the summer as they have their eyes set on a Barcelona star as well…
