da betano casino: In the wake of Steven Gerrard’s shock announcement last week, the Reds’ vice-captain Jordan Henderson will be licking his lips at the prospect of captaining the Anfield club on a full-time basis.
da 888: Rumours broke on New Year’s Day that Gerrard was set to leave Liverpool in the summer – which were later confirmed by the 34-year-old. The skipper hasn’t played as much as he would have liked this season, and he hasn’t quite got the legs to boss the Liverpool midfield like he used to in his heyday. Gerrard will pull the curtain down on what has been an extraordinary and illustrious 16-year playing career at Anfield, where he has turned himself into a Liverpool great. He confirmed he will not be moving to another Premier League club, as he told LFC; “I won’t be playing for a competing club and will not therefore be lining up against Liverpool.”
He added; “My decision is completely based on my wish to experience something different in my career and life and I also want to make sure that I have no regrets when my playing career is eventually over. From now until the last kick of the last game of the season, I will be as fully committed to the team as I ever have been and giving everything I have to help Liverpool win games.”
But what is Liverpool’s monumental loss, is Jordan Henderson’s gain. Of course he will miss pairing up with Steven Gerrard in the heart of the Reds’ and England midfield, but to skipper a club the size of Liverpool will certainly cushion the blow, and will surely be a dream come true for the 24-year-old.
When Henderson arrived from Sunderland in a somewhat surprising £20m deal, the midfielder was instantly put under enormous pressure to succeed at Anfield. After a disappointing first two seasons on Merseyside, Henderson has kicked on since, and he has really established himself as one of Liverpool’s most important players. The midfielder played a pivotal part in the Reds’ surprise title push last season, and he looks like a completely different player to the one they signed from the Black Cats over three years ago.
Henderson has moulded his game around the style of Gerrard’s, there are many similarities between them both, and the current Liverpool skipper has no doubt played a huge role in Henderson’s impressive development. At the start of the season, Reds boss Brendan Rodgers handed the England international the vice-captaincy, and he has already taken to his role extremely well in Gerrard’s absence. The ex-Sunderland man made his first appearance with the armband for the Merseyside club in the 1-0 win over Stoke City at Anfield in late November, and he recently made his 150th appearance for the Reds in a 3-1 win over Leicester City – which he capped nicely with a goal.
It’s undoubtedly been a very strange week at Anfield since Gerrard’s shock announcement. Brendan Rodgers is going to have to try and replace the seemingly irreplaceable legend when the time comes. But in Jordan Henderson, the Reds have a very capable skipper ready to take over Gerrard’s genius and to attempt to lead Liverpool onto bigger and better things in the near future.
