However, the Gunners could have picked up all three points if Giroud managed to score one of the three chances he received, and the Frenchman was clearly frustrated he didn’t do so.
Yet Wenger was happy with his determination, and knows he’s bound to miss a few of them from time to time.
He said: “He is very angry. I am pleased [with that].
“We have shown the character again today because we were a bit on the ropes, we responded.”
“When you see a player who is happy to miss chances, you can worry. He wanted too much to score — especially the opportunity he had in the six-yard box. But it can happen. I accept that.
The Arsenal manager went on to add that his side showed they are mentally prepared for any occasion after a battling performances despite their humiliation by Bayern Munich in midweek.
“Every time we have a disappointment, the game after I feel we respond well,” he continued. “When you look at the results again today: Villa v City, 0-0. Liverpool lost, we played 1-1, it just shows you that the championship will be extremely difficult for everybody.
“Also that the mental qualities can have a big influence in the future and I think we’ll need these qualities.”
The Gunners will face West Bromwich Albion in their next Premier League fixture after the international break.
