da 888casino: Make no mistake about it, Ryan Shawcross is a solid Premier League centre-back.But in contrast to a few years ago, when he was knocking on the door of the England teamÂand mooted to leave the Bet365 Stadium for one of the Premier League’s top clubs, Shawcross’ form and status within the division has notably declined. And after missing much of last season through injury, there have been accusations of the 29-year-old losingÂhis touch. He certainly drew some criticism from Potters fans earlier in the campaign when there were rumours of a shock Three Lions call-up…
But there has been a notable upturn in form over the last few months, with Shawcross helping his side two four clean sheets from his last ten starts – including during a 2-0 win against Watford yesterday evening.
It was a 90 minutes that really saw the defender’s improvements come to the fore. Not only did he put his side in the lead just ahead of half-time time, but he was also instrumental in claiming that clean sheet – albeit, against an admittedly toothless Hornets side – as our infographic shows.
Indeed, ShawcrossÂmade a staggering twelve clearances and won eight aerial duels – two hallmarks of a centre-back enjoying top form – but also weighed in with one tackle, one interception and a trademark Shawcross block to stop Watford getting on the scoresheet.
If he can keep it up until March when Gareth Southgate selects his squad to face Lithuania, the commanding defender could find himself back in England reckoning once again.
