da dobrowin: As reported by Ukrainian outlet Tribuna, Celtic are interested in signing Dnipro striker Artem Dovbyk in the upcoming January transfer window.
What’s the story?
da jogodeouro: The Hoops already have a number of talented strikers at the club with Moussa Dembele and Leigh Griffiths both in good form this season, aided by classy back-up in the form of Paris Saint-Germain loanee Odsonne Edouard.
However, it seems the stars are aligning on an affordable deal for one of the top young talents in Ukrainian football.
Tribuna report that Celtic are looking to sign 20-year-old forward Artem Dovbyk in the new year on a free transfer, with his contract set to expire at current club Dnipro at the end of December.
However, the outlet also say that the Hoops are rivalled by Bundesliga side Augsburg, who are also in the hunt for the in-form striker.
Who is he?
Rated at £450,000 by Transfermarkt, Dovbyk is in lethal form for Dnipro this season, scoring 12 goals in 12 matches for the club in the Ukrainian second-tier after their relegation from the top-flight last season.
Bursting onto the Ukrainian scene last season, he won the Ukrainian Premier League’s best young player award despite his club’s ultimately doomed campaign.
An U21 international for his country, he is also on the fringes of the senior squad having been called up by striking legend and Ukraine manager Andriy Shevchenko, although ultimately unused.
On a free transfer it’s a reported move that appears to make perfect sense for the Hoops. His scoring record this season is undeniable and he is obviously a talent, one which can be enhanced by the coaching of Brendan Rodgers, who has improved the likes of Moussa Dembele and Leigh Griffiths so much in the last 18 months.
