da spicy bet: England’s latest squad announcement sees no place for Leicester’s James Maddison.
The attacking midfielder has been exceptional this season and has been one of the best creative outlets in the Premier League. However, that doesn’t seem to be enough to work his way into Gareth Southgate’s plans.
As such, Leicester fans bemoaned the decision on Twitter as they were left completely dumbfounded that he wasn’t included.
One supporter claimed that the 22-year-old had been robbed whilst another called the situation ridiculous when the likes of Fabian Delph and Jesse Lingard had been called up.
A further fan suggested that Southgate was picking players over who they played for, rather than their form.
Maddison has been exceptional for the Foxes after arriving from Norwich and earned his first England call-up last October. Since then, he’s struggled to force his way into the team.
The Leicester man created 100 chances in the Premier League this term, the most of any player. Therefore, it’s incredibly surprising that he’s not done enough to get into the Nations League squad.
With that in mind, he’ll now likely feature at the U21 European Championships.
Here’s the best of the reaction.
